The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny




Louise Penny is one of the most celebrated mystery writers of out time and this new brilliant novel The Beautiful Mystery by her is one of a kind that is sure to win another award for the incredible storytelling. This novel is set in a monastery of Saint-Gilbert-Entre-les-Loups in Quebec where there are two dozen monks living in peace and harmony. Their day to day life consists of planting vegetables, tending to chickens and making chocolate. One other thing that they do is sing. These monks are famous for their amazing voices and the effect that their voices have on the listeners is so profound and intense that it is known as “the beautiful mystery”.

The plot starts with the murder of the choir director and that leads to the entrance of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir of the Sûreté du Québec into the boundaries of the monastery. As they investigate they find clues that shatter the silence and break the harmony of the monastery and as the peace crumbles Gamache has to face his own fears and demons besides the ones that are haunting the very walls of the monastery. To solve the mystery the Chief has to tread carefully and make each move cautiously if he wants to find the killer and restore the peace.

Louise Penny is a Canadian author who is well known for her mystery books and has received a lot of nominations and awards for her brilliant work. Born in 1958, Louis Penny started her career as a radio broadcaster for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. After that she decided to try writing and won quite a number of awards for her work which includes the Agatha Award that she won for four years in a row from 2007 to 2010 for best mystery novel of the year. Besides that she also won the Anthony Award for two of her novels and got her work published in 23 different languages. She also tried writing a historical novel but after a while she turned her attention back to the mystery writing. Her first novel was Still Life and she entered it in the "Debut Dagger" competition in the United Kingdom which earned it a second place out of 800 entries. Besides that, the novel won quite a number of other awards some of which include the "New Blood" Dagger award in the United Kingdom, the Arthur Ellis Award in Canada, the Dilys Award, the Anthony Award and the Barry Award in the United States.
Her work is exceptional earning her great nominations and awards for her brilliant storytelling.
